Peritoneal dialysis abroad: arranging supply delivery

If you're on peritoneal dialysis, the main challenge with travel isn't finding a clinic — it's getting your fluids and supplies to where you're staying before you land.

Order early. Most suppliers need two to four weeks' notice to arrange an international delivery, and longer for less common destinations. Give us your travel dates as soon as you have them so we can start the order with enough runway.

Confirm a delivery address that will actually accept the shipment — a hotel front desk may not take a pallet of boxes, and a holiday rental may have nobody there to sign for it. We check this with the accommodation before the order ships.

Ask for a delivery confirmation, not just a tracking number. Tracking can show 'delivered' when a package was left in a lobby; you want someone to confirm your specific boxes are at the property and intact.

Pack a few days of supplies in your check-in luggage as a buffer, in case delivery is delayed by a day or two. Airlines generally allow this as medical cargo, but check with your carrier ahead of the flight.
